Top Ten!

I placed in the top ten for the recent Women on Writing essay contest! Here's what the letter said:

Dear Julie,

Congratulations on placing in WOW’s Q4 Essay Contest! “Lego Girl” is such a creative, smart essay, and we all just loved the way you put it together! Third person was such a GREAT choice and your essay is the best example I’ve seen. The husband part was packed with emotion! I loved the repetition of “Who was...” until the end “This is who she is” - powerful writing! You have a fantastic narrative voice and this was one of my favorite reads. :)

Living by the Salish Sea

Every time I walk along North Beach, I feel blessed to be living here -- the misty horizon, screeching seagulls, statuesque herons, soaring eagles, noisy ship traffic, slick seals bobbing and diving, skittering Salish Sea waves against the beach. Heaven!
